Turku AMK, a representative of the MEDALLION project, participated in the MatchXR event held on the 18th of November at Metropolia Arabia Campus, Helsinki.

Turku AMK has been actively involved in the research and development of the MEDALLION project. The goal of the project is to investigate how XR and other metaverse technologies can support health and welfare personnel in their work.

The goal is that with the results, new approaches will be visualized for the problems that have been recognized throughout the MEDALLION project.

During the development, TurkuAMK has researched the investigation of Magnetic Resonance Images (MRIs) and the editing of visualization views in a virtual environment. Furthermore, TurkuAMK has tried to improve the techniques of data transfer and communication between dentists and dental nurses in client work. The goal is that with the results, new approaches will be visualized for the problems that have been recognized throughout the MEDALLION project.

TurkuAMK has participated in the MatchXR event for several years with the Futuristic Interactive Technologies (FIT) -group. In the event, ongoing projects are presented, and this year, MEDALLION was also featured.

This is what Jami Aho from the FIT-group had to say regarding MEDALLION-presence at MatchXR 2025:

MEDALLION seemed to raise plenty of interest and many MatchXR-attendees stopped by to chat with us due to the MRI-demo video.

“Unfortunately, we were unable to present a real interactive demo, but we presented a video of the MRI-demo along with other projects. MEDALLION seemed to raise plenty of interest and many MatchXR-attendees stopped by to chat with us due to the MRI-demo video. This offered a good opportunity to discuss about other development done by TurkuAMK in the MEDALLION project, such as a dental technology demo, which aims to find out how to reduce unnecessary home visits by nurses regarding dental care.

We were also left with a strong feeling that a significant portion of the visitors represented the health and wellness industry, either through projects, teaching, or XR business operations.

Medallion and the other project relating to wellness and education, Aidverse, were the most attracting eye-catchers of our event stand. We were also left with a strong feeling that a significant portion of the visitors represented the health and wellness industry, either through projects, teaching, or XR business operations. We have observed this previously, but it is promising to see that the interest to finding new XR solutions for health and wellness seems to continue, possibly even with an increasing need.”
